Hello, everyone! For future reference: My first character's given name is Sarren, but only his family/schoolfriends know it because he introduces himself as Magikchicken (or Magik for short.) For anyone who isn't part of his backstory, Magikchicken or Magik will do just fine.
Also, all dates/times on this page are GMT-8. Forum time is 10 hours ahead, so some dates may appear to be different from logs.

"Magikchicken," (or Magik for short,) known only among his family and closest friends as Sarren Brighter, is a young, energetic trainer who has only recently set out on his Pokémon journey. Leaving his hometown of Azalea in the Johto region, he intends to emulate the feats of many of the Pokémon World's greatest trainers: To fill his own Pokédex by meeting (though not catching) every type of Pokémon, and to raise a small family of his favourites. Magik has a very optimistic nature, but his positive outlook is tempered by a sense of realism that's surprising in a boy of only nine years. He enjoys seeing things he's never seen before, and doing things that nobody has done before.
The young trainer's father is a researcher with Silph Co. in Kanto, and as a result he isn't home very often. However, he was the one who encouraged Magik to pursue his dream of becoming a trainer, and who has funded, to some extent, Magik's journey. He calls his son often on his Pokégear, and offers him Pokémon training advice, along with-- occasionally-- inside information on the latest Silph technological advances.
Magik dislikes the practice of keeping Pokémon in PC boxes, although the system is considered humane due to the fact that it puts Pokémon in stasis. As a result, he intends to not catch any 'extra' Pokémon, or if he does for some reason, to release them (or perhaps leave them with his mother, who runs the tiny Azalea branch of the Pokémon Daycare network.)
Magikchicken, unlike the vast majority of youngsters populating the Pokémon world, detests shorts. As a result, he wears pale brown or green pants, along with a comfortable short-sleeved T-shirt whose colour-- usually bright-- and design vary from day to day. He is rarely seen without his blue, compact backpack, which contains a few changes of clothes, the various items he needs for his travels and his Pokémon, and little else. Strapped to his right forearm he carries a teal blue, state-of-the-art Pokégear that he uses one-handed with extreme ease.
Magik has dark blue eyes and short, flyaway brown hair. He rarely is seen without a smile, and his face seems perfectly suited to the expression.
Despite his perpetual smile and his tendency to expect the best from people rather than the worst, Magik is surprisingly withdrawn-- although he has an inquisitive and positive personality, he isn't as outgoing as one might think, preferring exploration in nature to the exercise of meeting new people. As a result, he has only a small group of close friends in Azalea: Those who took the initiative to make contact with him, rather than vice versa.

Tella Marr is a girl of thirteen, tall for her age and possessed of a slim, athletic build, though some of her thinness seems to come from undernourishment, as if meals are few and far between. She has fairly long, nearly elbow-length black hair that she keeps in a braid, tucked into her coat so it doesn't flap around. Her eyes, a startling shade of pale grayish blue, would be captivating if they didn't also hold a perpetual, almost imperceptible spark of strange energy that, for some reason, is somewhat unsettling to most people. She normally wears tattered blue jeans that have seen better days, worn gray sneakers, and a scuffed black coat that she keeps zipped up.
Her origins are unclear, but a few inhabitants of the suburban zone at the fringes of the large city of Celadon know her as 'the girl who lives in the forest.' None of them have seen her with anyone else, and she seems to live alone somewhere near the forest northeast of Celadon, coming into town only occasionally to buy food.
Tella's personality can only be described as serious to the point of dark. While, once in a while, one can see the thirteen-year-old underneath the pragmatic, emotionless realist, such moments are few and far between. Normally, Tella is a dangerous reminder of what happens when a human being-- even such a young one-- is pushed past the point of most people's endurance, and survives. She can be ruthless when necessary, caring when she can afford it, and her moral compass seems to swing from one extreme to the other with the same ease as her personality; but these changes are always for a reason, even if that's not clear immediately.

Lokiel Terra is a boy of thirteen, usually to be found with a bit of a disdainful sneer on his face. The superior look with which he regards everyone he meets, though, is jarring due to his decidedly ragged appearance. His close-cropped hair is dyed red, but it can't have been renewed all that recently because the color is faded and turning brown near the roots. He wears a thin leather jacket that may have been stylish at one point, but that now hangs in tatters from his shoulders. Under it, a black t-shirt bears a large red-and-silver emblem rendered unrecognizable by the dirt stains covering the shirt's front from one too many falls. His serviceable blue jeans and worn runners have seen better days, too.
Lokiel's life was once that of a spoiled but highly intelligent rich kid: top grades in school, private tutors for every and any pursuit his father approved of, and a life of privilege. But under the surface, his life at home was anything but easy. His mother died when he was still a young child, and his father is a less-than-warm paternal figure. Lokiel's entire life was a struggle to meet his father's exceedingly high expectations, not always successfully, until Lokiel's greatest failure, his final disappointment to his father, resulted in a Pokémon showdown which Lokiel lost spectacularly. Finally, when his father was about to sentence him to a failed rich child's life of restrictive boarding school and upper-class drudgery in the world of business, an unexpected saviour arrived and whisked him off to start a new life as a beginning Pokémon Trainer.
Now, it's all he can do to build that new life from what little the ashes of the old have left him. Lokiel, half unknowing, has begun the journey that will teach him... that sometimes, life sucks.
What? Did you think this would be an inspiring and uplifting story?
